Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie

I know its been a while but the summer is no longer a time for sleeping til noon and hanging out by the pool. Being an adult is not as much fun as children are led to believe... Crushed childhood dreams aside, this new song by the RHCP is well past due. But the best part of waiting longer than you ever imagined for something is the payoff when it is above your expectations. I'm not saying this new track is ground breaking, revolutionary, or even amazing. It is, however, new and that is all I care about right now. Its a good song. Its definitely the Peppers, but its not Aeroplane or Hey or even Under the Bridge but it has something all the other songs don't: COW...BELL. I'm 99% sure that the only reason I enjoy this song is because I can't get the image of Will Ferrel dripping in sweat, bulging out of his tiny shirt, and beating a cow bell into oblivion out of my head.

Explosions in the Sky - Last Known Surroundings

The first ever video for an Explosions in the Sky song exclusively for 12 years of songwriting and they finally put out a video. I'm so glad they did even though I wasn't exactly waiting for it. Enjoy.

Top 20 Albums of the Year (So Far)

Check out Stereogum's top 20 albums of the year so far.

I have to disagree with this list though. To leave Radiohead off is a sin of the highest level.

Cinematic Orchestra - Man with a Movie Camera

I know its been a while since the last post went up so I'll apologize by adding quite a few songs a day until I feel the trust in our relationship has returned to a stable level.

That being said, today's post is a little different from the rest. The Cinematic Orchestra has dozens of songs I'd be more than happy to post on BFTS. However, I have chosen this one. So suck it up and deal with it.

Throwback Thursday Track #1

From now on, every Thursday will be a Throwback Thursday. I'll be posting the songs you miss, or might have missed, from back in the day.

Our first throwback track comes from one of my favorites, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. The man is one of the most eccentric emcees of all time.

"If You Must" was featured on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 Soundtrack. According to the game's producers, the song was put in as an 'educational track' to teach the impressionable youths who played the game about the importance of good hygiene [1]. It must have worked, because I have washed my ass and brushed my teeth almost every day since hearing this funkee song.

If you haven't yet, check out Del's newest album, Golden Era. It's not his best, but still better than most rap that's been put out this year.

Compelled To Listen Vol. 3

Brand New's "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" is one of those songs that pulls you in quick with killer instrumentals and when you don't listen closely and interpret the lyrics properly the entire story behind the song is lost. Ominous instrumentals and eerie lyrics are this song's bread and butter. Listen, like it, then come to the logical conclusion that you love it.
